I'm glad to hear that our Guapa is "normal"
at the obedience class she used to be a disaster - she's doing better now though.. but mostly I'm really embarassed  It helps when I don't feed her all day , she behaves a bit more in class *sigh*

Guapa pulled me over once, I just smashed against the ground.. I stayed down for a few seconds, not realising what had happened

Freyja has pulled me over a small fence before, trying to play with another puppy, SO embarrassing!! And she also tends to run after kids playing with a football and then runs away with their ball... bad puppy!

Obedience class last night was a complete shambles - Freyja was the only dog who broke the sit-stay (after 2 seconds!) and in the recall she followed me out instead ofwaiting til I turned around to call her to me. Oh well, we got 2 more weeks of assessments left, but I don't expect we'll pass this time. The frustrating thing is, she does everything PERFECTLY at home! There is 17 dogs in the class tho, so I think it just may be a bit too chaotic of an environment for her to concentrate, and she IS the youngest pup there. I try to give her plenty of excercize before class, but no matter what I do, she just goes mental!

I'm gonna keep at it tho, and one day hope to have a well-behaved pooch! *fingerscrossed*

everything always goes well at home... I know what you mean!! and from the moment she realises we're are driving towards the training school, the wilde crazy monkey in her is alive again..

We even tried to stop feeding her on sunday evening, the course is on monday evening. In this way, we try to make her work for treats (delicious meat and cheese!!), but despite the hunger, she has no attention for me (food-master ;)) and just wants to play with everyone and everything.

And then the trainer says: be patient, you have a very active dog, patience is the only thing that will get you through

I'm glad she did well yesterday, my dad gave her a bath, then dried her with the huge hairdryer, and she also got some lovely dog perfume on :) she's so soft and smells like a young puppy again.. little monster!

Yes, I've been told I have a very 'active' dog myself! The obedience trainer said that she preferred dogs with 'spirit' though, and Freyja is definitely not lacking in that regard! Psycho puppy!!

And last night, the final night of assessment - shock and awe - she SAT for 2 whole minutes and didn't break the stay! And, she also stayed behind for the recall until I called her to me! YIPEE!!!! Those were the 2 tricks she really needed to get marks on. So, I think she will definitely pass the class, dunno if she will get a rosette this time, but that's ok as long as she passes! :dibbley:

Next Tues is graduation and the are giving a special rosette for best retrieve so I'm gonna work on that loads and hope she'll impress!

Yay! Freyja passed her class! She didn't win a rosette, but she was far from the bottom score and 2 puppies didn't even pass, so I'm very happy! :nana:

She didn't win the rosette for best retrieve either, but she did come in 3rd (out of 17) with it so :)

And, today is her birthday - she made it to one!! :dibbley:

So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY my good puppy!!!!

what a sweet dog! how much time did it take to get her shirt on?

I still get shivers when I think of the shirt that our dog wore after her surgery.. :cuss: Esther had taken the "ugliest" shirt, which had Zak Steven's autograph on it by the way, and had made gaps in it..
So from now on, I put on one of Esther's shirts when we have to go out in the snow!

 Yeah, I remember you saying that about your signed shirt! Deary me....

Freyja actually is ok with shirts and coats and things like that. It takes all of 2 seconds to get that Wolves shirt on her and she's quite happy to wear it, thank-goodness. She's currently wearing one of Wolfie's old winter jackets, which is a bit too big for her as Wolfie was a good deal larger, but it serves the purpose for now. It's still bloody freezing out here, but it should start to warm up soon.

I'll soon be getting Freyja spayed now that she is almost over her season. We're gonna wait for her next class to finish first, which is 14 weeks starting this Tues, and then we'll book her in. I'm just hoping she will calm down some after that! Did yours calm down any, or was she always ok to begin with?

I would not count on that .. she was calm the hours afther the vet had returned her. The vet had to give her 1.5times as much anaesthetics as for a "normal" dog, so she was sleepy all day.
The next day she just pretended being tired, and the third day we already had to calm her down because we thought the stitches would come out :dibbley:

Oh no!

Oh well, maybe Freyja will calm down after her spay, maybe she won't. If not guess we'll just have to wait til she's in her old age, that's only another 10, 12 years? Yikes..... :help:

Dogs - gotta love em'!!

aren't you afraid that you'll meet another dog who is not on a leash?

Where we live it's just very hard to find a place where "nobody" ever comes to walk..

Freyja is actually better off leash than on. When she meets another dog when she's off leash, she usually lies down, border collie style, and then runs to greet them. Sometimes she has a scary bark and sometimes she lets them come up to her, but she is never aggressive, just wants to play. She wants them to chase her. Alot of people get freaked when she runs up esp. if she's barking like a maniac, but when I say "she's just a puppy and is ok" then they calm down a bit. It is a bit embarrassing though cuz she is big and can sound really scary, but we're hoping she grows out of that. If the dogs she meets are not friendly, she senses that and gives them a wide berth. If they hassle her, she runs away. She can run pretty damn fast! I find that here, dogs are only off leash if they are ok with other dogs. If I see someone clipping their dog on leash, then I usually do the same to avoid any trouble, altho Freyja will leave an aggro dog well alone, thankfully!

There are a few places we've found that we can take her to where there's hardly anyone about, but usually we always run into at least a few people, and there's just nowhere to go in summer where no one is. We take her to areas that are 'dog places' so people know that if they are out walking there, they will most likley encounter a dog so they pretty much expect it.

She was starting to calm down for a bit, then started acting all crazy again and when we took her to the vet last week for her annual shots, he said she was having a 'phantom pregnancy'! She was producing milk and everything! That is why she is currently acting all hormonal and humping the pillows and basically being destructo-pup. I couldn't believe it when he told us that, but I'm just thankful there is an explanation for her craziness! He said it should last about a week, but it's been a bit more than that and she's still a bit hyper.... figures with her, everything takes a bit longer to sort out!

How is your dog around other dogs?
